5-6 Year Old Basketball Rules
1. The game will consist of 8 minute quarters.
2. This is an instructional league only. No scores or standing will be kept at this level.
3. The game shall NOT begin with a jump ball. A coin toss should be done to allow first possession. Then possessions alternate between quarters.
4. The coaches shall be on the court with the children to instruct them and to assist with setting up the players on the court. An assistant must be with the kids that are not playing on the sidelines.
5. The offense must let the defense set up before bringing the ball up the court. The defense must be set up inside the “Key” and they are not allowed out of the “Key” to steal the ball or block a shot. The defense must allow the offense to shoot the ball.
6. Once a shot has occurred, the defense may leave the “Key” to retrieve a rebound. If the offense retains control, then the defense must again set up inside the “key”. If the possession changes then the team must allow the defense to set up down the court.
7. NO stealing is allowed. No block shots are allowed.
8. Each player must play an equal amount of time. No player shall play an entire game.
